Student Groups and Organizations


    There are many student groups and clubs on campus. Computer Science students may be particularly interested in the following opportunities.

    Computer Science Graduate Student Council (CSGSC)

    The purpose of the Computer Science Graduate Student Council (CSGSC) is to promote a feeling of community among Computer Science graduate students (both Ph.D and master's) by organizing and sponsoring social and educational events. A further purpose is to represent Computer Science graduate students’ interests within the Portland State University community.

    The Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS)

    is one of the most advanced amateur rocket clubs in the world. They use an open technology platform to build rockets and the associated airframes, avionics, communication equipment, motors, software, and more. They are actively looking for members, both students and others, at every skill level.

    The Portland State Association for Computing Machinery (PSU-ACM)

    is the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinists. The ACM meets on Fridays at 4 pm in the computer science tutor area FAB88. There is food, board games, and student driven informational mini-lectures on various topics relating to hardware and software

    theCAT Braindump

    The Computer Action Team (CAT)runs an apprenticeship program called the Braindump, teaching system administration skills for Linux, Unix, and Windows The program is free to students in return for volunteer time helping the team, and imparts some important skills that are complementary to the formal educational program
