Student Groups
There are many student groups and clubs on campus. Computer Science students may be particularly interested in the following opportunities.
- The Student ACM is the student branch of the major professional association for computer scientists. It is run by and for students, and offers a variety of interesting programs throughout the academic year, and is free. Students are also encouraged to join the national ACM at the bargain student rate to get a head start on life-long learning.
- The Computer Action Team ()CAT) runs an apprenticeship program called the Braindump teaching system administration skills for Linux, Unix, and Windows. The program is free to students in return for volunteer time helping the team, and imparts some important skills that are complementary to the formal educational program.
- The Portland State Aerospace Society ( PSAS) is one of the most advanced amateur rocket clubs in the world. They use an open technology platform to build rockets and the associated airframes, avionics, communication equipment, motors, software, and more. They are actively looking for members, both students and others, at every skill level.
